Class Overview

The student's first experiences in music are of great importance.  A positive experience that is integrated into their daily routine will inspire the student to actively participate in learning the language of music.  The Pre-Kindergarten study of music is designed to expose the student to music concepts of rhythm, melody, pitch, tempo, volume and tone color.

 Materials Used:

Teacher's Guidebook:   Music and Movement - The Cycle of Seasons, with activity cards by Lorna Heyge and Audrey Sillick

Classroom Rhythm Instruments:  rhythm sticks, drums, jingle bells, triangles, xylophones, resonator bells, finger cymbals, sandblocks and woodblocks.

General Goals:

The Pre-Kindergarten Student will learn to match pitch by singing melodies and tonal patterns, identify fast or slow tempos by moving to music, identify loud or soft dynamics by playing or singing the same sound, develop listening skills by listening to poetry, stories, and music and demonstrate skills in performances and assemblies throughtout the year.
